Additional Resources
It was an immense pleasure writing these plans for you. It is our sincere hope that they will be effective, easy, and fun for both you and your students. Each lesson has various parts and knowing the purpose may help you design meaningful lessons for your pupils.
Objective
This is the ultimate goal for each student. It can be achieved a number of ways through different lessons.
Background
This section is mainly for teachers, but information can be shared with students when appropriate.
Materials
These are the things you will need to have in advance to complete the lesson.
Preparation
This needs to be done before the lesson begins. Some lessons require more preparation than others.
Procedure
These are the step-by-step directions for completing the lesson with the students. At times, you may prefer to do something else; as long as they achieve the same objective, this is acceptable. Some alternative lesson ideas are provided for you. Of course, when working with children, lessons may not run perfectly. Go with the lesson even if it runs slightly off track as long as the objective is being reached.
Discussion
In some of the lessons, there is a discussion section. This is done at the end of the lesson with the students.
Possible Questions
In the discussion, allow children to share their viewpoints and original ideas. Discussion questions are there to get a conversation going, get a conversation back on topic, or further teach a concept from the lesson.
Alternatives
These are different lesson that can be done at other times or instead of the main lesson.
Extensions
In some cases, there are Extensions in a particular lesson. These can be used if there is time, a desire to learn more, or to challenge a few students. At the end of all of the lessons are Extensions that can be used with any lesson. Once students know how to do the Extension, it can be applied to any lesson with minor changes.
Glossary
This is a listing of words and their meanings, for the teacher and/or students. Vocabulary words listed in each lesson also appear in the glossary.
