After the Kill
The Reading Corner, a Northern Kenya Conservation Clubs project, engages children with active storytelling. After the Kill by Darrin Lunde details the events that take place after a lion kills a zebra. Other animals fight for a piece of the zebra after the lion has finished. After the Kill demonstrates the important relationships between animals in an ecosystem. If one animal was removed from the food chain, the story could have ended a different way. At the end of the story the reader asks comprehension questions for the students to think about. This story connects to the lessons in the curriculum at https://www.mpalalive.org/classroom, about the environment and the human-wildlife connection. Specifically, After the Kill connects to Unit 5: Lesson 4: Food Chains.
