Milia’s Big Day
The Reading Corner, a Northern Kenya Conservation Clubs project, engages children with active storytelling. Milia’s Big Day by Thea Feldman details a day in the life of a young zebra and her harem when she is tasked as a lookout. The book illustrates a way that animals protect their family group, very similar to humans protecting their families. At the end of the story the reader asks comprehension questions for the students to think about. This story connects to the lessons in the curriculum at https://www.mpalalive.org/classroom, about the environment and the human-wildlife connection. Specifically, Milia’s Big Day connects to Unit 2: Lesson 6: A Day in the Life of an Animal and the activity in Unit 2: Lesson 6: Extension: On Guard!.
